Course Description This course focuses on the rules of statute, common law and equity governing the ownership and use of real property, i.e. land and buildings. It deals primarily with situations involving private ownership of lands: the rights and duties thereby enjoyed and owed by a private owner over the land in his/her right and vis-a-vis his/her neighbours, and the methods where land may be transferred. Whereas the course essentially provides grounding in the general principles of private property law, it also forms a basis for further study in the specialized fields of planning, landlord and tenant, and conveyancing.
Transferable Skills At the end of this course, the student should be able to describe the concept of proprietorship and registration under the Torrens System, demonstrate the ability to provide solutions in respect of the nature and efficacy of land law in Malaysia and discuss legal principles relevant to the given factual situations.
